Lecture and discussion with Doireann O’Malley and the protagonists Nika Pecarina, Pol Merchan and Elena Schmidt from the film Prototypes, which can be seen in the exhibition “Wild – Transgender and the Communities of Desire” .
Wild – Transgender and the Communities of Desire is an international group exhibition and brings together contemporary artworks that deal with the questions and challenges of transgender life and communities. It is not necessarily an examination of the complexity of transgenderism; rather, in this specific constellation of artworks, transgenderism appears as a perspective from which current (social) conditions and living conditions are formulated and narrated.
Doireann O’Malley was born in Ireland in 1981. Her work incorporates a variety of media: composing films, writing fragmented word compositions and collecting images are her central methods. Reflections on the private spheres of experience are composed with a subtly political, poetic form. Absurdity, fantasy and dreams inspire her constellations. Doirean O’Malley lives and works in Berlin and is currently a fellow of the Stiftung Niedersachsen at the Edith-Russ-Haus.
