BallettCompagnie Oldenburg: City Moves

20. May 2016, 10:00 - 12:00

Action in public space

The BallettCompagnie Oldenburg leaves the theater and enters the city. In selected public places, the dancers will create an urban intervention through movement and thus influence perceptions of everyday city life and urban architecture.

The ensemble will set up in Oldenburg’s city center with an installation reminiscent of a large soap bubble. The company will dance inside and outside the bubble to a sound collage of urban noises. People walking and driving past can enter the installation and enjoy a moment’s respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and view it from a different perspective. Anything is possible in the bubble itself, people can dance together or watch, talk or remain silent. What happens is filmed each time and woven into an evening in the small house. The residents of Oldenburg and their movements are at the center of the evening, as they are the starting point for the choreography – the whole city will develop the piece.

With ‘City Moves’, BallettCompagnie Oldenburg pursues the goal of questioning (urban) space. What happens to this static space when it is filled with a different kind of movement – an artistic form of movement – and with a dynamic body? The space within the space makes it possible to change one’s view and perception of the city and to ask about other contexts in this protected space.

The date of “City Moves – Work in Progress” has been moved to rehearsal stage 2 in the rehearsal center (Herbartstraße) due to the weather.
