“DarkGame” – Interactive computer game

Free admission.

On the occasion of International Museum Day, the Edith Russ House for Media Art invites visitors on May 17 and 18 to play through the interactive computer game  DarkGame by Eddo Stern to experience their senses in a new way.

DarkGame is a computer game developed by the artist in which the players are deprived of their senses. Each of the two players of  DarkGame will wear a specially developed accessory. Using a headset, the player will receive additional sensory information when, for example, the sense of sight is suppressed by switching off the visual information on the screen. By using the sensory deprivation experience, players can experience how a disadvantage can become an advantage in the different environments of the game. Try it out!

At a time when the entertainment industry seeks to offer all-encompassing sensory experiences, Stern’s DarkGame critically examines perceptions and media experiences by heightening our senses through deprivation and drawing attention to deprivations that go largely unnoticed in our society.

The Israeli artist Eddo Stern developed DarkGame 2007 as part of his scholarship at the Edith Russ House for Media Art. The  The scholarship program is made possible by the Lower Saxony Foundation.
