In his lecture, artist Ho Tzu Nyen will talk about the Critical Dictionary of Southeast Asia and the projects it has led to, including The Nameless and One or Several Tigers.
Akin to a living organism, The Critical Dictionary of Southeast Asia (CDOSEA) is part of an ongoing project that is growing and providing critical insight into the pluralistic definitions of Southeast Asia under the current nomenklatura.
The term Southeast Asia is ambiguous and unclear, the area is not united by language, religion or political power. CDOSEA uses an algorithmic system to generate an “endless series of possible Southeast Asias” that form a territorially disjointed yet terminologically connected tapestry.
It represents a research platform and matrix for generating future projects. CDOSEA is fed by the algorithm “Abécédair”, which runs in a continuous loop. This consists of video material, redirected from online sources, and is reassembled in endless algorithmic variations. Ho Tzu Nyen works together with Jan Gerber and Sebastian Lütgert (0 x 2620) .
Ho Tzu Nyen is offering a course at the HfK Bremen together with Sebastian Lütgert in the winter semester 2019/2020.
The lecture is part of the lecture series and the project The Dynamic Archive.
