Bogomir Doringer – Unwanted Story

24. February 2012, 18:00 - 23. February 2012, 23:00

Performance

The artist Bogomir Doringer grew up in Yugoslavia just as it was beginning to fragment into many parts.

During these days, his family’s dinners were assaulted by the television with its bloody images of war and destruction. He later moved to the Netherlands to study audiovisual media in Amsterdam. To his surprise, he was always perceived first as a migrant from Serbia, then as a student. This uncomfortable position became part of his work, for which he immerses himself in his memories and explores them. He explores the images left there by the mass media and uses them as inspiration.

In his lecture performance, he shares uncanny moments of his life with the audience, supported by a series of private images: of places that no longer exist and have a magical power to conjure up the past.

Bogomir Doringer is represented in the exhibition The Digital Uncanny at EDITH- RUSS- HAUS with a large installation.
