Exhibition tour and film screening with Karolina Breguła

21. August 2024, 16:00 - 18:00

Film presentation with artist talk

Polish artist Karolina Breguła invites you to a public tour of her current exhibition The Waves Are Rumbling so Loud.

Karolina Breguła deals in depth with questions of architecture, social shifts and urban spaces in their impact on communities. In her exhibition, everything revolves around the state of the oceans in the midst of the climate crisis. The artist brings together experiences and reflections on this elementary phenomenon. With her comprehensive and experimental film language, the artist creates situations in which collective storytelling becomes possible.

Following the tour, Karolina Breguła will present the film Golden Algae by her friend, artist and researcher Weronika Fibich, in the Agora, a meeting place in her exhibition. The film deals with the Oder disaster in July 2022, when a mysterious fish kill occurred that claimed the lives of around 60 percent of the fish population in the affected section of the river. A single-celled organism called Prymnesium parvum, also known as ‘golden algae’, was identified as the cause of the catastrophe. The film is part of a research project by Weronika Fibich, which is dedicated to various questions about the nature of the golden algae.

After the screening, there will be an opportunity to talk to the artist about what she has seen.

Participation in the event is free of charge.
