Free-media takes accessible media apart and repurposes it without unnecessary restrictions and control – “free as in free speech”. Graham Harwood and Joao Wilbert introduce the basics of video sniffing and data hijacking. In the further course of the workshop, the participants will try out the creative use of surveillance cameras. At the finissage of the RECORDERS exhibition by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, the results of the “Free-Media” workshop were presented in the form of a short film with images of video surveillance cameras in Oldenburg and the surrounding area. The interventions in these surveillance systems that have been made over the last two months were presented and discussed.
