Jumping over the shadow, how does that work?

08. March 2012, 23:00 - 19. May 2012, 22:00

Workshop

“Jumping over the shadow.

The uncanny, as we encounter it today in the media and social networks on the internet, has a lot to do with the absence of real bodies. However, the theme has been dealt with for much longer in the motif of shadows, for example in the fairy tale “The Wondrous Story of Peter Schlemihl” by Adalbert von Chamisso or in “The Shadow” by Hans Christian Andersen.

In the current exhibition, shadows play a central role in several video and light installations.

In the first part of the workshop, the group is guided through the exhibition and the children discover where shadows can be seen everywhere. They learn to observe closely and describe from their experience what they see and what the shadow does in the work.

The second part of the workshop takes place in the seminar room. Here the children do various playful exercises. They try out how they can double or triple themselves in the shadow, how they can make themselves very big or very small as a shadow. They can shadow box, be doubles and imitate another child as a shadow. Together they can create completely new figures in the shadow image and tell what kind of figure they are now representing together.

Both parts of the workshop are always adapted to the children’s group so that their needs are addressed and their respective abilities can develop.
