New bodies in art: Digital. Virtual. Posthuman?
Approaches, theses and ideas from the world of art on the future relationship between man and machine are the subject of a lecture taking place on Wednesday, December 11, 6 pm, at the Edith-Russ-Haus for Media Art. Admission is free. In her lecture, journalist and art critic Magdalena Kröner will explore the possibilities and abysses of new digital body models; new “parallel bodies” that are currently being created with the help of robotics, biometrics, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. For example, it addresses the problematic consequences of the use of big data and biometric recording programs when they are used as a means of exercising political power and social control. The current exhibition at the Edith-Russ-Haus, “The Unknown Ideal” by London-based artist Zach Blas, is also dedicated to digital technologies and their impact on society and power relations. It can be seen until January 5. Kröner is also the editor of the current themed volume “Digital Bodies” in the “Kunstforum International” series, in which a detailed essay, a comprehensive picture section, interviews and background discussions shed light on the complex subject area. There is also a special focus on the work of Zach Blas.
