MUSIC III – The medium strikes back, part 2

12. November 2011, 19:00

Concert

Concert evening, 8 pm, Edith-Russ-Haus for Media Art

curated by Jens Brand

The second part of Music 3 also deals with ideas about percussion, hitting and being hit, as well as the questions: “Why?” and “With what?”,
or “Who?”.

Relly Tarlo and Anne Wellmer miraculously get motors and electronics to smash innocent objects.

Anne Wellmer is a composer and media artist. She studied electronic music at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague and composition with Alvin Lucier and Anthony Braxton at Wesleyan University in Middletown CT/USA. In 2007 she was awarded an “Honorary Mention in Digital Music” by the Prix Ars Electronica.
Her works include “sonic environments for performances”, sound installations, live music for dance and theater, radio art, music theater, network projects and improvisation with electronica.

Echo Ho – as the inevitable exception to the rule – stays out of fights and impresses with self-made sounds and videophony.

Echo Ho is a media artist based in Cologne. She grew up in Beijing and moved to Hong Kong in 1994, where she received her diploma in Technical Arts (Film/Television) from the Academy for Performing Arts. She came to Germany in 1998, studied Audiovisual Media at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and graduated in 2003 in Media Art under Prof. Anthony Moore and Prof. David Larcher.

Her artistic work spans a broad field of video, sound art, installations, audiovisual live improvisations and intermedia performances. She examines cultural developments in the context of trends in globalization, the narration of the body and the metamorphosis of the urban landscape. Her artistic work addresses these issues directly, while her performative works experiment with approaches that allow communication in heterogeneous collectives (e.g. network music), where conventional strategies reach their limits. In her audiovisual language, she attempts to establish algorithmic and non-linear structures of expression alongside classical linear methods with the help of computer-based real-time tools (PureData, SuperCollider). Since September 2007 she has been an artistic-scientific assistant in the field of video and electronic media at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.

At the end of a long line of unpredictable behavior, Marcelo Aguirre is finally someone who just does it, and does it properly, i.e. loudly and with a
drum kit and drumsticks… but: very slowly.
