Participation in the project “Humans at War” by Harrell Fletcher May 10 – 31, 2010, appointments (approx. 2 hours) by appointment!
Humans at War is an interdisciplinary project that the American artist Harrell Fletcher developed in 2005 during a scholarship stay at the University of Wisconsin. Against the backdrop of the war in Iraq, he felt compelled to continue working on the subject of war after his work on the Vietnam War.

The project is based on a group of young people entering into an exchange with someone who has personal experience of war, displacement or a similar situation. We are therefore looking for people who have experienced war or flight and are willing to tell us about it. We are also looking for groups (from primary school to university age) who are willing to draw from these stories. Conversation and drawing situations can take place at various locations. They are prepared and supported by the pedagogy of the Edith Russ House; for example, translation is also possible by arrangement.
Procedure: The person with experience of war or flight is asked to describe a specific situation they have experienced, whether dramatic or banal. The younger listeners then make drawings. This can lead to a conversation about what they have heard or about the drawings between the people giving the account and the people making the drawings.
The drawings and the stories will be shown in the exhibition “MyWAR” at the Edith-Ruß-Haus for Media Art in Oldenburg (June 9 – August 25, 2010). The drawings will be returned to the authors after the exhibition. All those who contribute to this project can (but do not have to) be named in the exhibition!
Time frame: The meetings should take place in May 2010, at least 90 – 120 minutes are necessary for describing and drawing the situation(s). There are no costs for the participants.
