“My War. Participation in times of war” is a cooperation project between the Edith Russ House for Media Art, FACT Liverpool and ISEA 2010Ruhr (16th International Symposium on Electronic Art). The exhibition shows artistic works on representations of current wars in media culture. These question the (moral) effects of the dissolving boundaries between the private and the public, the personal and the political. The focus is on individual artistic explorations of images of war and experiences of war as well as the influence of digital technologies on the dissemination of images of war and the current practice of war.
The workshop focuses on gender constructions that are inscribed in cultural representations and practices. The contributions range from analytical descriptions of the links between cultural representations, for example in art and the mass media or film music, as well as the interactions between commemorative practices and cinematic representations. In addition, artistic works on historical anti-war actions and artistic contributions to the current exhibition, reflections on gender images in expositions of violence and images of the enemy are topics of the workshop.
