Sound Seances concert “The Birds” by Zorka Wollny

21. May 2017, 17:00 - 18:30

Concert

2 concerts in Oldenburg’s Pulverturm on 21.05.17, 19:00 and 20:00

The concert series works with a classic from film history and transforms it into a film experience through new music – films without images. The inspiration for the first séance was Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. The first concert in the series took place at midnight in a gallery in Wroclaw, with the audience and performers plunged into complete darkness. This was not only a challenge for the performers, it also created a unique sensitivity for the sound and the presence of the performers in the room.

Zorka Wollny will continue to develop Die Vögel for the Pulverturm in Oldenburg and will work with a group of around 10 volunteer performers for two weeks for the performances. The composition is based on voices and simple objects (e.g. paper, nuts, metal). The vocal part will be supported by electronic sounds, which will be prepared and performed by the artist and composer Hans Castrup.

Zorka Wollny s (*1980 in Krakow) works function on the border between theater and visual art and are strictly connected to the respective performance architecture. She works – in a director-like mode – with musicians, actors and dancers and always with members of the local communities. She lives in Berlin and teaches at the Szczecin Art Academy. Zorka Wollny is currently a fellow of the Stiftung Niedersachsen at the Edith-Russ-Haus 2016.

The audience for the performances will be limited to 30 people due to the size of the powder tower and will be placed in the upper part of the powder tower, while the electronic sounds will come from below through the hole in the middle of the tower.
