Deportation Class, 2001
Representation through artistic-aesthetic strategies or activists hiring artists, artists hiring activists, companies hiring art spaces and art spaces hiring everything.
This all-day symposium is an invitation to artists and activists to offer videos and lectures for a lively discussion on the use of aesthetic strategies inside and outside the art spheres.
Rosanne Altstatt (Director, Edith Ruß Haus für Medienkunst) begins by placing the symposium in the context of the exhibition. Antek Walczak from the “Bernadette Corporation” (USA) presents a new video about the anti-globalization demonstrations in Genoa. Stephan Dillemuth (artist and author of “The Academy and the Corporate Public”, D) asks whether artistic research can serve as an alternative form of critique beyond conventional strategies of representation. Marion von Osten (artist, author and lecturer at the Institute for Design and Art Theory, CH) will give a lecture with video material dealing with artists and their role in the “creative industry”. Deportation Class and Silke Wagner will discuss the connection between activist and artistic actions against deportation.
