The workshop is dedicated to the existential ability to survive in
\nextreme situations. This is a matter of life and death. In the course of a day, every<\/x>encounters situations for which a<\/x>solution can be found. But what about the situations for which we have no solution
\nat hand? <\/p>\n

First, Petko Dourmana introduced the theory and
\nhistory of the struggle for survival. Various scenarios<\/x>were presented, showing how and why people prepare for<\/x>disasters and crises. Various
\nsurvival kits were then presented, which are used, for example, in extreme cold,
\nin the military, in water or in the desert. <\/p>\n

The participants had brought pictures with them that were
\nto do with “survival”. Based on the images,
\nown survival strategies were formulated and then discussed and adapted under the
\nconditions of Petko
\nDourmana’s “Post Global Warming” exhibition scenario. <\/p>\n

Day one – “The discreet charm of invisible reality”<\/strong><\/p>\n

December 4, 2008<\/p>\n

The
\n first workshop will be dedicated to the invisible infrared world that surrounds us
\n. In principle, all digital imaging devices <\/x>can make infrared light visible. However, this function is limited by the manufacturers
\n. <\/p>\n

The workshop is designed to help participants<\/span> understand
\n the limitations of our eyesight and enable them
\nto discover the invisible beauty that normally remains hidden from our eyes
\n.<\/p>\n

\n During the workshop,
\nworks by several artists who make use of this technique, such as Robert Rauschenberg with “Open Score” or Oliver Lutz
\nwill be presented and discussed. The practical part will involve working with technical
\nequipment such as digital cameras, video cameras and multimedia projectors
\n, which can easily be used to visualize and capture
\ninfrared light images. <\/p>\n

In addition,
\n multimedia projectors are modified so that they only emit infrared light
\nthat can be made visible with night vision devices.
\nSelected results of the workshop will be uploaded to the Drupal website
\n. Finally, the film “They Live” by Carpenter and<\/x> other films in which infrared light is used will be shown. This will be followed by an open discussion round at
\non the topic previously discussed. <\/p>\n

Second day – “The art of survival”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The
\n second workshop is dedicated to the existential ability to survive in
\nextreme situations. This is a matter of life and death. Every
\nencounters situations in the course of a day, and there is a
\n way to solve them. <\/p>\n

But what about the situations for which we don’t have a solution?<\/p>\n

First
\n there will be an introduction to the theory and history of the fight for survival
\n. Various scenarios will be presented, showing <\/x>how and why people prepare for disasters and crises <\/x>. This will be followed by a presentation of various survival kits
\nthat are used, for example, in extreme cold, by the military, in water
\n or in the desert. <\/p>\n

This is followed by a role-playing game in which
\n the participants assemble a wide variety of items, which they have previously purchased from a
\nsupermarket, into thematically different
\nsurvival kits. The groups work out what <\/x>is important in the fight for survival and which survival strategies <\/x>seem particularly useful. For a journey into the future, past
\nor into fantasy worlds where the participants encounter unforeseen
\ndifficulties, each group puts together an individual survival kit adapted to the
\nrespective circumstances. <\/p>\n

It also shows how politicians<\/span> manipulate mass media for their own purposes and use disasters to their advantage. Finally, instructional, artistic<\/span> and promotional videos for survival training are shown. <\/p>\n
